If I had time to change anything about my game, I would definetley add more scenes. Our game seemed too short and needed to be more difficult. The graphics were nice, all we needed to do was add a little more personalization to it, like making it interactive in more than one way. We had alot of plans for the game, but time was on our hands, so we had to finish it fast.

Well, at first my partner and I were a little nervous when we got up there to do our presentation. We learned to always be prepared and to test out our game before we go up there. We had some difficulties with loading the game, but it was all good in the end. The second thing we learned is to divide up the scenes when you read them. Stephen just mostly worked the game while I explained it all, we should've took turns. Overall, I learned that my partner is good under pressure and he behaves himsilf when needed to. I think we did pretty good, but there's still stuff we need to work on.

Partner Evaluation

My partner is an overall good worker. He's great at actionscript, and knows his way around flash very well. Everytime I need his help, most of the time, he's there. Even though he gets distracted sometimes and loses his jumpdrive I still give him a 100%, because we work good together, and that means alot. Some team argued all the time, but we only had minor disagreements. Stephen concentrates on the important stuff and doesn't harp on the small details, like what color the scenes are. As long as you can see the text on the background, then any color is fine with him. I also give myself a 100% because I worked on most of the graphics on our game, and wrote most of the text.

What We Have Left

This year of Globaloria has been challenging, but we've learned alot. The only thing we have left is to fix buttons. After we fix them, we have to go over the vocabulary and spelling. We will also run through the game to make sure all of the scenes backgrounds and text are coordinated to where the player can see it. At the beginning of the year, my partner and I wanted to make a game about footaball. We changed out mind because three other groups in our class were doing the same thing. We thought a game about shopping would be more unique. Since then, we have made many improvements, and are moving forward. Here are the improvements that we have made.

First, we acually started working on our game. When we first started out, we didn't really pay much attention to the details of the process, but later on we cared. I don't know what got us motivated, but now we work on the game everyday and create alot of scenes. Currently, we are caught up with the rest of the class and the game is almost completed. We just have a couple more scenes to attach.

The most important improvement that we have made to the game was making it a non-quizical. When we first started making it, it was just a simple "click the right button and go to the next level" type of game. That was really helpful to our game.

Today we played our classmates's games and evaluated them. First, we played Kilie and Cassie's game. It's a game where you have to go through all of these mazes to find the correct answers about pathagoream theorem. It's very educational and fun. It's a perfect example of a children's math game. My partner and I said it had great graphics, but the walls of the maze needed to be hit tested. Next, we played Super Proportion Man by Amber and Brittany. You have to fly this little man into the air and hit the right answer. It also had great graphics and actionscript, but we told them to make the numbers in the air smaller so it would make it possible to choose the right answer. Then we moved on to Chuckie and Matthew's game. It has music in it which makes it more interactice and fun. Although, they need to combine their scenes so the game will be organized so people can rate it better. Another game we played was Garret and Stacy's game, "The Quadruplathon." It's a series of four events that you have to go through to learn about square roots. The different activities make the game more challenging and interesting. They just needed to fix some buttons. Brooke and Clyde's game was one of my favorites because you get to drive a dirtbike. Me and my partner last year also made a game which included driving so I was able to evaluate them easily. The scenes are great, but they need more levels. Our game is close to being finished and we just need to actionscript a couple more things. People mostly said that they liked our game, but the hit test needed to be fixed, and level 1's buttons did not work. We now have the hit test working, and are moving on to fixing the buttons.

These days, it is crunch time. We only have a month before game presentations, and I seriously need to focus. Here is how I'm going to use my time wisely. First of all, I need to think about my game, and only my game. If this is going to be finished, then my partner and I have to work non-stop to make it happen. we have to stop talking to friends and surfing on the net, and finish this. That is our biggest goal right now. Level three is being worked on, and then we work

on the final level and credits. Other than that, I think that its been a great year and we'll finish this.

What We've Overcome

During this year in Globaloria, I have overcame alot of obstacles. My partner and I have worked alot on our game. The first thing we have overcame is actionscript. We knew how to get the codes, but it was just a matter of putting them in the right place. After reading the tutorials, we realized specific details about the codes that were important to the game. I am better at actionscript than before. The Secong thing we have overcame is working together. In the beginning of the year, we disagreed on alot of stuff. We had different tastes on everything. We overcame the disagreements by accepting that we can't have everything our way and to put each other's work on the scenes. Now, our game looks great and is almost finished. The last goal that we have overcame is acually working on the game. At the beginning of the year, I didn't really pay attention to my game. Now I look back on how much time I've wasted talking, and procrastinating. I've overcame that by thinking how bad it would be to fail a class that's not really that hard. Since then I've worked on my game and gotton pretty good grades.

In our game, alot has to be done. My partner and I have goals that we set to make our game better, and possibly finish it. Our first goal is to work on level three. Well so far my game has been worked on alot, and there's good things about it, and bad things about it. The good things are that most of the actionscript works, it has great graphics, and it is fun to play. The not so great things about our game is that it doesnt have that many scenes, it only has one character to choose from instead of two, and people say its a quiz-type game. Greatest Challenge

In my opinion , Globaloria has been very challenging to me. Most of them I have overcame, like combining scenes and making keyframes. Other challenges are more difficult to deal with. The hardest challenge for me is actionscript. If one piece of the code is out of place, then most of the time, the scene will not work. To other people, it's easy for them, but I think it's just flat out frustrating.

In our game presentations, I noticed a couple of mistakes, but nothing major.What I realized about it though, is that I would have never found the mistakes myself. My classmates and teacher were helpful in this unit. They showed me what was good, and what I needed to fix. This unit made me realize that everyone comes from a different perspective. Adding sound is indeed the funnest unit of the gaming process. Playing games with sound in it is much more intriguing than a game without it. It makes the game come to life. It also makes the game more interactive. I plan to use sound in a fun way. Usually when you play a game, there is music, but not particulary music that is heard on kid's ipods and mp3s. My game is gonna have the most modern music possible so kids can relate to it and are more confident to succeed and advance through all of the levels. How is Globaloria So Far?

Last year, I learned that working in flash is just basically fun. This year is the same, but on the other hand, it takes alot of effort. Working in flash isn't just drawing pictures and adding text. That's the easy part. The difficult part about flash is the actionscript. You have to make sure that your actionscript works in order for your game to be interesting. In fact, it wouldn't be a game without the it. Nothing would move, or be animated. Flash is a way to be original and creative, that's the main reason why I like it. Adding Animation

Adding animation was about the easiest unit I had to do so far. All I had to do was choose an image, select an animation, such as exploding, shadow, blurring, etc. Then I just posted it to my wiki page. Adding Butons

Adding buttons was pretty easy. The codes are easy to remember because I used them frequently last year for my game. Buttons aren't that hard to make all you do is draw a shape , group it, convert it to a symbol, and put the code in. Adding Scenes

The "Adding Scenes" unit was very helpful. It helped me narrate this game a lot better. You have to set a storyline in your game so the player will understand what it is about. I'm using visual storytelling in my game by updating the player about the progress that they've made so far. For example, if the player gets the question wrong, they are notified of the consequences. One game that I played in the "Playing to Learn" unit was "What Would You Do?" It had a lot of text. It narrated throughout the whole game. Drawing a scene was really easy and fun. It taught me a lot and I can't wait to draw more scenes for my game. Drawing a Scene taught me to be very detailed with your actionscript because if you miss one little thing, everything will mess up. It also taught me to usa multiple colors on the scene to make it look full of life and interesting. The new idea I learned about my topic was that you could use it in many different ways. The Paper Prototype unit was very helpful to the start of our game. It made thinking about what our game should be about much clearer. Our game is called "Dash to the Dance." It is about the character of your choice trying to make it to prom before the time runs out. Teaching Civics

Teaching civics in our game was difficult. At the beginning my research, I wondered how I could teach people about civics. Our game teaches about the seventh amendment. The seventh amendment is about the right to a fair court trial. For instance, if a guy gets his yard trashed and he suspects that his neighbor did it, then he has the right to bring it to court and settle it all out. But now that we have our research and we know all the basics of civics, it is much easier to teach other people about it. The way I teach people civics is pretty simple. In my game, you have to drive to the courthouse and solve a case, and on the way, my partner and I put civil law questions in between the levels pertaining to the actual case that they'll solve in the end. The player learns many things about civics such as equity, and compensation. All in all, the player will be educated.

Paper Prototyping

As I said In previous blogs, my team's paper prototype went very well and our game is coming along very nicely. On the civic engagement site, we had to research other team's game demos. One game that really caught my attention was "White House Trivia." That team did a really nice job on it. I liked the game because it was acually fun and educational at the same time. The game is really colorful and it works really well. "White House Trivia" was about answering questions about the United States as if you were a foreigner taking a greencard test. If you got the answers right, you got your greencard, and if you got them wrong, you got deported. In comparison to our paper prototypes, I think we have both started out plain and simple, then just gradually adding more details as we went along. The things I noticed in their paper prototypes, was that since then, they've added a lot of new questions to the game and put a lot more detail into it. The game is very colorful and inspirational, my partner likes this game also and we hope to see it finished so we can play the whole game!

I think teaching kids about the environment is very essential. That's why "S.O.D.S" caught my attention. "S.O.D.S' stands for "Super Oil Disaster Squad", and it's about saving animals from major oil spills. When I played this game, It really taught me about the danger of oil spills and the effects it has on innocent animals. This game is really detailed and that's why I think it educates children about the issue. The fun factor about the game is that you get to save the animal from the spill, and then you get to wash it. "The Fox Racers" has came a long way. We mostly colaborated on paper prototype. I think we worked together on that really well because we have never made a game before and we were really excited. Paper prototype required alot of thinking because that was kind of like a visual of what our game wouild acually look like. Citizenship Duties

In many communities, the government depends on volunteer work to accomplish all sorts of things. For instance, recycling is a great way to help your local community. It's important that this duty must be fufilled so your area is safe and unharmful to people and animals. It would be unfortunate if someone was hurt because they stepped on a piece of litter. Disaster relief is another helpful volunteer that local citizens do. If a terrible storm, such as a tornado, hit your town and blew your house away, you would have nowhere to turn. You would have to depend on the kindness of others and your family to get you through this tough situation. That's why most places where disasters hit have people to rebuild houses and buildings. I thought our game presentation went very well. Shannon, Rachael, and Dave were very helpful on the phone. They showed us that there are all sorts of ways to teach kids about different kinds of civil law. We have a few concerns about our game and are making changes to it. In the game "Tutorial", I learned that you can get in serious trouble for plajorising. In some schools, you will be expelled. My game topic is about Civil Law. Civil law is cases about non-criminal actions. It deals over disagreements over contracts, divorce, child custody, property ownership, and damages of personal property. A civil court is a place where people can solve their problems with other people peacefully. The function of civil law is to provide a legal remedy to solve problems. Sometimes civil law is based on a state or federal statute; at other times civil law is based on a ruling by the court. My partner and I chose this type of Civics because we think that kids need to understand the legal ststem at an early age so they'll undersrand what really happens in a courthouse. I also researched some cases containing civil law. For example, Your best friend’s parents get a divorce. The judge awards custody of your friend’s sister to the mother and of your friend to the father. The friend and sister want to live together. They ask a lawyer to change the custody order. This information will be used to educate the young players of our game "The Hot Pursuit." We will put this information into questions as the player navigates through the game. My favorite part of American history is 9-11.
We all know the official story of September 11th: four jetliners were hijacked by groups of four and five Arabic men armed with box cutters, who proceeded to fly three of the four jets into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Subsequently the World Trade Center Towers, weakened by the impacts and fires, collapsed into piles of rubble. The "retaliatory" attack on the Taliban would soon commence. There were very brave people on that plane and still to this day they are remembered even though they died of a tragic death.

Animation and Sound

In this past unit, my partner and I have learned how to animate objects and put sounds onto our game. We finished the adding animation unit and are moving on to adding sound. In adding animation, I learned how to make an object in my game move. I made my car go across the screen. Now, I'm going to try to make the car have a sound. The tutorials were very helpful in these two units and I've learned alot from them. I liked the adding animation unit best because my team worked very hard on that car and we put a lot of time into it. I am bringing up the issue animal cruelity. Everyday an animal is abused for no good reason. Acually, there is no excuse for abusing any type of animal. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for animal abuse, but there are so many things we can all do to help. None of them will make animal abuse disappear tomorrow, but every little bit helps lower the risk further down the road.
And you don't have to be an animal "fanatic" to do it. You don't have to be a member of every animal rights organization on earth. There are so many things regular people can to do to have an impact on their lives. To prevent animal abuse from occuring,you must educate yourself and your friends to take care and to love your pets. All animals need love so it would be great if more people would visit shelters and donate to animals in need. What I've Learned in Flash

I have learned a lot about Flash in this unit. I learned that it's not easy, It's acually a lot of work. Like Mrs. Barker said, You have to treat flash like a baby, It doesn't know anything so you have to be very specific when you're telling it what to do or put in. That's why I thought the action script was hard, because if you misspell anything that you type then you will have to go back and find your mistakes. The easy part about flash was creating the pages for my game. I like to put all kinds of different colors and graphics on my game, It was really fun and I understood it pretty well. The content in my game is about Civil Law. I've done some research about it and learned that Civil Law works with non-criminal cases. For an example, if some one falls down in a public place and breaks their foot, they could press charges if they get a lawyer and present their case in court. I don't have anymore questions about creationg the game because I think I know all the basic stuff in this unit. But later on I might have a question. My partner and I might need a little more time with adding navigation so we can check over everyting and make sure we have everything done.

What We've Done In Flash

My partner and I did very well on drawing in flash. Billy traced the car that went on the title scene and I made the "about the game" scene. Our game is very colorful and fun. The drawing in flash tutorials helped tremendously because we hardly ever had to ask our teacher for help all the time. I hope that it will turn out great and everyone will love it. We haven't created our loading screen yet,but we uploaded what we had done to our project pages. "The Racing Pursuit" is going to be a success.

No More Swine Flu!

I am writing about a world -wide issue. The swine flu is a major issue in the United States and everywhere else. So I want to make a rule that if you're from a different country and you have swine flu, then you have to be treated before you go into another country. I don't think it should be legal to bring deadly diseases into other countries because that just make it spread and then it becomes worse. This deadly disease spreads through mostly humans. Such as coughing,sneezing,or drinking after people. You might have swine flu if you have the following symptons: fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headaches, chills, or fatigue. You can keep from getting H1N1 by washing your hands frequently,keeping hand sanitizer around at all times,and gettin the vaccine that keeps it from getting in you body. But if you get it anyway,then you must see a local doctor immediatly! This disease is very dangerous so I want to help put a stop to it!

My partner and I are doing very well with our game. It is going great. We did some research on our game topic "Civil Law" and found useful information. We started on the title screen and moving up to finishing scene one. After we watched the videos,we knew what to do so I think this is going to be easy and fun! Yesterday, some important people came to our Globaloria class. One of the people's name was Abby Taylor. She was very helpful to everyone especially my partner and I. How will a player learn more about civics while they play your game? As you go through the game you will have to answer civics questions that will get harder as you reach the next level.

Where does your game topic fit into the Civics Knowledge Framework? Does it teach about an ideal of government, a function of government or about citizenship? Please explain. It fits in the catagory of individual rights. For example,if someone trips over an object in your house while visiting,who's fault would it be? Who would have to pay the hospital bill? Freedom of speech means alot to me because I like to express my opinion about social topics like school rules and rights. I think that all people are equal in opinion and it is a great thing that we all have freedom of speech. If Mr. Cambell forbid me to wear mt favorite T-shirt to school then I would have to disagree and use my rights, but if my shirt violated school dress code and was inapropriote, then I would understand. If they wanted to search my locker ,then I think I have the right to refuse, It's the school's property but they need proof that I have done something wrong to search it. Searching it without a good reason wouldn't be right. Freedom of speech is a great thing but you have to choose what you say and how you say it wisely.

My partner and I are starting a new unit. It is called imagining your game. We are trying to make a game that helps people learn about different types of civics. Our game is going to be super fun. It shows people that you don't have to read to become educated in civics. It's going to have multiple choice questions about different topics. I really hope that this game will teach people and make them more advanced in civics.

In this unit, our class is learning how to make a civics game. I chose my topic on rights. People should have their freedom like the constitution says they do, but others do not see it that way, some people abuse their freedom. That's why I chose the first blog to add to my list. This girl explains the unfairness to pay for health care when she doesn't even use it. She made some very interesting points that I understood. The second blog that I added was about school law. This man explains and gives examples of about students and their responsibilities. It also has stories on people's rights. What I Learned in Globaloria

So far this year in Globaloria, I have learned a lot of things. Right now we are starting into a new unit. This unit involves a lot of flash so my class an I have been learning how to group objects and make them move around. The hardest part was following the code that you have to type in order for your object to work. You have to make sure that it's word for word or the process won't work. The easiest part of the class is the assignments. Like creating blogs and writing about the topic that Mrs. Barker gives us. But my favorite part in Globaloria is the new mini-game unit we're on right now. It's a lot of fun and I learned many things.

What is important for us to know? It is important for us to know that the internet can be very dangerous and terrible things can happen to you if you don't take precautions. If you be careful and watch what you do on the internet,it can be fun and safe.

How safe are we making ourselves online? I think that at our school,we are making ourselves safe because we don't give out important or personal information such as our full name,where we live, or our social security number because if that information was in the wrong hands, who knows what a person would do. Dangerous people could kidnap you and possibly ruin your life if they had access to your personal data,so i'm glad that I don't give that out or add any people that I do not know.

Is the internet safe or dangerous? I think that the internet is safe and only you can make it dangerous. You can make it dangerous by not updating your antivirus,giving out personal information, and talking to people that you don't know. There are kids that have been kidnapped because of strangers on facebook,myspace, and other messenging websites. You can make yourself safe by avoiding all these things that lead to danger. So if you don't know someone on your messenger who wants to be your friend,decline their request. That could prevent serious problems. The internet is supposed to be resourceful and fun so let's keep it that way!

Dress Code Blog

People have the freedom and rights to express themselves. But when their expressions are harmful to other people and theirselves, it is limited. That is why the schools have dresscodes. In my commitee, my mind is set on safety of the students. I would suggest that there wouldn't be any flip-flops or sandals without backs on them. Students could fall and get hurt. But, I would also consider the thoughts of the students too, so my commitee and I will hold a vote on whether or not to ban strapless sandals and flip-flops. If they vote no then the decision is made. They get to wear their sandals as long as no one gets hurt. Each and every student will sign a contract wrote up by my commitee saying that they will take precaution and be careful while walking.
